Who's Delphi?
Delphi Corp.
is an independent company that,
in partnership with XM Radio, provides
receivers and other units. Delphi Corp announced a partnership with Sirius in January to develop the first phase of a vehicle satellite tv system with an antenna that is light and narrow enough to fit between the headliner and roof of a vehicle. Ross Olney, a physicist for
Delphi said his team spent five years designing the system. So, Delphi is working with both but in different technologies.
Here's a difference

Who's listening?
In terms of listening pleasure and selection, although Sirius vs XM both have a large number of different stations to choose from, we can point out a key difference; XM is more mainstream while Sirius has fewer sponsor restraints. What does this mean? When you look over the Sirius vs XM comparison of the program channels, notice that XMhas more sponsored stations like MTV,VH1, CNBC, CNN, ESPN and several others.
What this means is that you will get the same familiar programming as FM with the
same familiar radio personalities.
With Sirius, you will find less corporate
sponsor control and a more independent feel.
So, you'll here less main stream and more of what you don't normally get.
I've surveyed the guys and gals at many radio installation places in L.A. for my research. I asked them, "who do you like better, Sirius or XM Radio and why". For the most part, they said that they like Sirius for the above reason. And these
fine young people spend all day long listening to radio as part of their job and for pleasure.
The quality of the sound-Can it shatter a glass?
Sirius is using VBR (variable bit-rate) audio encoding. This means that the amount of data moving through, adjusts so that each channel gets only the bandwidth it needs which results in superior audio. XM uses CBR (Constant Bit-Rate) audio, which means that even when there is dead silence, it is still taking up just as much bandwidth as a loud blasting rock song. In addition, CBR does not "give" channels more bandwidth whenever the audio needs it, resulting in a more dull, less impressive sound. Sirius may be behind as far as launching service nationwide, but on the technology and programming front, Sirius is ahead of XM. (p.s. it probably can't shatter glass)
Sirius uses three satellites and XM Radio uses two. This means that Sirius satellites are positioned at a more vertical, straight up above us location. That means you rarely loose the signal unless some manmade object is in the way (skyscraper or parking garage).
Broadcasting occurs 24/7 so you get what you want anytime you want it.
Sirius actually had there satellites in place long before XM Radio, but due to some technical adjustments it was delayed from getting to market.
My opinion is Sirius radio's music has a much wider and deeper variety than XM, but the radio personalities are more familiar with XM.
With Sirius vs XM, we feel it almost comes down to, Coke or Pepsi?
Who's playing that song?
Looking at Sirius vs XM, Sirius has full text display on all receivers meaning you can see who the artist is, the song, etc. XM's displays are limited.
With Sirius, you have the option of listening to programming through your broadband internet connection. With XM you will need to spend an additional $50 for the attachment.

I hope that the Sirius vs XM page has been a time saver and a help for you. You should choose to go with satellite radio for sure if for nothing else, commercial free music. Whether it's Sirius or XM Radio, you will have to decide based on the above factors and any other research you do. Our personal pick is Sirius. As the satellite radio market continues to grow, we believe that the difference in price will even out by the options available. You should get what you'll be happy with in the long run. The worse case scenario is you change to the other if you don't like one. How bad can it be.
